Restoring a 19th-Century Lighthouse Tower

When the restoration team first set foot on the island, the lighthouse tower had not received major structural attention in over sixty years. Mortar joints had cracked, allowing water ingress that caused significant internal damage to the iron spiral staircase and the original lantern room glazing.

The project began with a full photogrammetric survey and masonry analysis. Four years later, the tower stands fully restored and the original Fresnel lens once again produces its characteristic four-flash signal visible for eighteen nautical miles.
